The financial crisis has made us forget, or just blindly deny, how dangerous the world out there is. We have a generations-long struggle with Islamic jihadism. An apocalyptic soon-to-be-nuclear Iran. A nuclear-armed Pakistan in danger of fragmentation. A rising Russia pushing the limits of revanchism. Plus the sure-to-come Falklands-like surprise popping out of nowhere. Who do you want answering that phone at 3 a.m.?...A man who's been cramming on these issues for the past year, who's never had to make an executive decision affecting so much as a city, let alone the world?...Or do you want a man who is the most prepared, most knowledgeable, most serious foreign policy thinker in the United States Senate?...There's just no comparison...Today's economic crisis, like every other in our history, will in time pass. But the barbarians will still be at the gates. Whom do you want on the parapet? I'm for the guy who can tell the lion from the lamb."

Who's Playing The Race Card?"
"And Obama has shown no hesitation in doing so to McCain. Weeks ago, in Springfield, Mo., and elsewhere, he warned darkly that George Bush and John McCain were going to try to frighten you by saying that, among other scary things, Obama has "a funny name" and "doesn't look like all those other presidents on those dollar bills." ...What makes this all the more dismaying is that it comes from Barack Obama, who has consistently presented himself as a healer, a man of a new generation above and beyond race, the man who would turn the page on the guilt-tripping grievance politics of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. I once believed him."

Make The Election About Iraq"
"In his St. Paul victory speech, Barack Obama pledged again to pull out of Iraq. Rather than "continue a policy in Iraq that asks everything of our brave men and women in uniform and nothing of Iraqi politicians, . . . [i]t's time for Iraqis to take responsibility for their future." We know Obama hasn't been to Iraq in more than two years, but does he not read the papers? Does he not know anything about developments on the ground? Here is the "nothing" that Iraqis have been doing in the past few months: ..."

Would Obama/Dems Kill 401k Plans?
"Ghilarducci would have workers abandon the stock market right at the bottom of the market. A stupid idea, according to Warren Buffett: "I don't like to opine on the stock market, and again I emphasize that I have no idea what the market will do in the short term. Nevertheless, I'll follow the lead of a restaurant that opened in an empty bank building and then advertised: 'Put your mouth where your money was.' Today my money and my mouth both say equities."...My bottom line: If you believe in the long-run dynamism of the American economy, then you have to believe in the stock market."

Redistribution of Wealth
"Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on an "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn, even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application."
<img width='1' height='1' Recently, the #94 thing that white people like is "Free Healthcare". I present it to you for your reading pleasure:

"In spite of having access to the best health insurance and fanciest hospitals, white people are passionate about the idea of socialized medicine. So much so that they have memorized statistics and examples of how for-profit medicine has destroyed the United States.

But before you can exploit this information for personal gain, it’s important that you understand why white people are so in love with free health care.

The first and most obvious reason is “they have it in Europe.” White people love all things European, this especially true of things that are unavailable in the United States (Rare Beers, Absinthe, legal marijuana, prostitution, soccer). The fact that it’s available in Canada isn’t really that impressive, but it does contribute to their willingness to threaten to move there.

These desires were only heightened in 2007 when Michael Moore released “Sicko,” a documentary that contrasts the health care industry in the United States with that of Canada, France and Cuba. As a general rule of thumb, white people are always extra passionate about issues that have been the subject of a Moore documentary. As a test, ask them about 9/11, Gun Control, or Health Care and then say “where did you get that information?” You will not be surprised at the results.

But the secret reason why all white people love socialized medicine is that they all love the idea of receiving health care without having a full-time job. This would allow them to work as a freelance designer/consultant/copywriter/photographer/blogger, open their own bookstore, stay at home with their kids, or be a part of an Internet start-up without having to worry about a benefits package. Though many of them would never follow this path, they appreciate having the option.

If you need to impress a white person, merely mention how you got hurt on a recent trip to Canada/England/Sweden and though you were a foreigner you received excellent and free health care. They will be very impressed and likely tell you about how powerful drug and health care lobbies are destroying everything.

Though their passion for national health care runs deep, it is important to remember that white people are most in favor of it when they are healthy. They love the idea of everyone have equal access to the resources that will keep them alive, that is until they have to wait in line for an MRI.

This is very similar to the way that white people express their support for public schools when they don’t have children."

"A record number of Pennsylvanians are registered to vote 8,328,123.

Fired-up by the primary slugfest between Clinton and Obama, more than 152,700 voters have joined the Democratic Party since Jan. 1. I should know because I was one. Of course at some point Dad decided to stop paying my bills . Shortly after graduation I did find a job and eventually married and had children. Thats when I realized I was now a conservative."

Ahhhahahahaha
Also:

"Someday you kids'll look back on this and realize that we're right and hopefully you'll come around and drop the liberal elitism that you're wrapped up in. Only then will you be able to get a job that doesn't involve wearing a paper hat or brewing up lattes for your betters who already made the connection and have real jobs and lives."

I'm really proud to say I was never one of those kids. Mainly because of the extremely strong opinions voters have on the democratic candidates. If you like Obama, you hate Hillary. If you like Hillary, you hate Obama. And if your pick doesn't get the nomination, you're voting for McCain. And thanks to everyone fighting over Obama/Hillary, McCain just keeps looking better and better and moving up in the polls. Not that I'm overly excited about McCain being the republican nominee but...I am going to vote for him over the other two picks.

To be honest, I am not really scared of Obama like I am/would be of Hillary. I do think he is very much a people pleaser, but I think given this he might be willing to maybe budge on things if he knew it would make people like him more. He's also very charismatic and people just plain like him. I don't get his whole "Change" campaign slogan because really, what does that even mean? Every new President wants to make change. Apparently he had some really lame marketing people come up with that for him. But you know, people like it. "Ohhhh I want change! Yay, change!"

Anyways. This is about the most recent polls regarding the candidates. McCain and Obama are pretty much tied right now, though Obama recently had a 10 point lead.

And this is why I have adopted philadelphia as my home haha!

This has actually been going on for a while. Most of my irritation comes from the fact that the looney, "we dont want to be a part of society" homeschool families ruin it for everyone. My parents homeschooled all 7 of their kids but we weren't one of those nutty families with no social skills or no sense of life in a community outside of our home. We all did Algebra and Biology and took college classes in our Junior and Senior years to learn what things my Mom couldn't necessarily teach us. And when I got to college I had better grades than most of the other kids I knew - who were struggling to get through English 101. And it drives me up the wall that homeschoolers automatically have the "no social skills no cultural knowledge they dress like weirdos they can cook but dont know what geometry is" labels put on them, because not everyone is like that. But of course the family that has effectively destroyed homeschooling in California is one of those families.

I do believe that there should be guidelines set for who can homeschool their children - for instance, in Vermont you have to report to the state at the beginning and end of every year, which is think is fair and logical. It's important to make sure that children are receiving a good education - whether it comes from a licensed teacher or intelligent parents. However, it's also not up to the government to tell parents how they may or may not raise their children.

You can go here to sign the petition against California's ruling that parents have to be specifically credentialed teachers to homeschool their children.

"I don't like Hillary because she's so bossy and cold and manipulative...I can't see that Hillary would appeal to feminists because, why is she there? I only know how to copy and paste. Also, this is bits and pieces, NOT THE WHOLE THING. Also, I read lots of things about global warming all the time and I have come to the conclusion that the whole thing is ridiculous. This *one* article did not make me come to this decision.

Global warming is a big fat scam. Al Gore was mad that no one believe he invented the internet so he had to come up with something, jeez!

An excerpt, for those of you who don't read entire articles:

"To see if all this makes any sense there are really four questions that all have to be answered "yes."

1) Are global temperatures rising? Surely, they were rising from the late 1970s to 1998, but "there has been no net global warming since 1998." Indeed, the more recent numbers show that there is now evidence of significant cooling.

2) But supposing that the answer to the first question is "yes," is mankind responsible for a significant and noticeable portion of an increase in temperatures? Mankind is responsible for just a fraction of one percent of the effect from greenhouse gases, and greenhouse gases are not responsible for most of what causes warming (e.g., the Sun).

Over 100 leading climate scientists from around the world signed a letter in December stating: "significant new peer-reviewed research has cast even more doubt on the hypothesis of dangerous human-caused global warming."

In December a list was also released of another 400 scientists who questioned the general notion of significant manmade global warming.

3) If the answer to both preceding questions is "yes," is an increase temperature changes "bad"? That answer is hardly obvious.

Even the UN’s original draft stated that an increase in temperature of up to two degrees Celsius would be good for many regions of the globe. Higher temperatures could increase ocean levels by between seven inches and two feet over the next 100 years.

4) Finally, let's assume that the answer to all three previous questions is "yes." Does that mean we need more regulations and taxes? No, that is still not clear.

If we believe that man-made global warming is “bad,” we still don’t want to eliminate all carbon emissions. I think its odd that in one election we have not just one but two controversial candidates.

"...guilt over transatlantic slavery was behind Mr Obama’s support from middle class whites...'If Obama can succeed, then maybe they can imagine that [Martin Luther] King's post-racial nirvana has arrived. A vote for Obama is a pain-free negation of their own racism.'."

This is something I have considered myself. You can vote for the woman so people won't think you are a misogynist. You can vote for the black man so people won't think you are a racist. While I am not voting for either one of them, I will admit that I think it's getting to that time where we should start electing government officials outside of the typical race and color that we usually see. However, its frustrating because you can't solve any problems or make yourself feel better simply by voting for/electing someone who is not the norm.

"..in the end, salvation for blacks won’t depend on the actions of whites.”

And its true. This 'salvation' isn't going to happen just because a bunch of white people decided to vote for a black president. This is something I wonder about black history month, since we're in it, and we're on the topic. Does the fact that we celebrate the diversity of another race make us stronger or does it make us weaker? Its important to know your heritage and to know your history and to know where you came from and where you are going...but on the other hand, in focusing so much on the differences between you and your neighbors, aren't you just widening the divide? Why isn't there a plain and simple "American History Month"?? Then we could celebrate our unity and history together, instead of singling out one group of people and making them even more separated.

I want irish history month dammit!

Also, GNOMIE-G SHOUT OUT to scott, who also reads my blog. Your hypocrisy is a beacon of hope shining over a sea of political posing.

I would also like to thank the Kennedy's for coming out in support of me. There's a lot of glamour behind the Kennedy name, even though JFK started the Vietnam War, his brother Robert illegally wiretapped Martin Luther King, Jr. and Teddy killed a teenage girl. And I'm not going anywhere near the cousins, both literally and figuratively.

And I'd like to thank Oprah Winfrey for her support. Her love of meaningless empty platitudes will be the force that propels me to the White House.

Americans should vote for me, not because of my lack of experience or achievement, but because I make people feel good. Voting for me causes some white folk to feel relieved of their imagined, racist guilt.

I say things that sound meaningful, but don't really mean anything because Americans are tired of things having meaning. If things have meaning, then that means you have to think about them.

Americans are tired of thinking. It's time to shut down the brain, and open up the heart. So when you go to vote, remember--don't think, just do. And do it for me.

Thank You.

The Really Truly Hillary Gallery.
(also known as my new favorite website of all time.)

If Al endorses Obama, I might have to throw a party, just over the hilarity type='text'>

Since Fred's recent drop out I have seriously been considering not voting in the upcoming election. I have been considering this because I cannot see myself being happy with any vote that I cast. But, I decided today that I will still be voting. I decided this because I was thinking about something I came across a couple weeks ago. A question, something along these lines, was raised "If the country was at war...who would you want to have in charge?" I think this is an important question to consider because we ARE at war right now and who knows what the next several years will bring to us. Forget immigration, forget healthcare, forget taxes - think about our safety as a country from those who would want to harm us. Regardless of why or how or who would do this, I personally am not all that interested in any form of "harming", as I would assume no one else is - aside from the nutjobs at godhatesamerica.com, of course.

While I have concerns and disagreements with all of the candidates I know that I would not want Hillary or Obama to lead the country in time of war. I know I would never trust Hillary and I'm also pretty positive I can't trust Obama with it either. Also, I know I wouldn't trust Huckabee or Ron Paul to protect a goldfish, let alone me and people I care about. Guiliani doesn't even count in my book...So this leaves me with McCain and Romney. I decided to do my favorite thing and peruse the intranets to see which of these candidates would be the best choice. And I think I might have decided to cast my vote for McCain. Read Sister Toldjah's Reckless Abandonment post and Michael Medved's Six Lies About John McCain. Obviously these are other people's personal opinions but they help me to consider things I had not before. And so I think I have decided I'll vote for McCain. I'm still not 100% but I know that based on foreign policy issues alone, that's who I would go for...

This is an oldie but a goodie...its always fun to be reminded of Hillary's ridiculous ideas. This is one piece I found particularly interesting:

"It's worth pointing out that once a group is completely owned by one party, that party only has to toss them a sop now and then -- politicians only keep their promises to swing groups. That's why Blacks, loyal to the Democratic Party, have so little to show for it.

If Blacks ever cast even thirty percent of their votes for a Republican, the behavior of panicking White Democrats in Congress would change radically, as would the behavior of ecstatic White Republicans: Black voters would matter again.

That's why careerist Black "leaders" are so eager to convince you that any Black Republican is a "race traitor," so you won't actually get uppity and consider unauthorized ideas and unapproved candidates.

That's what it means to be "owned." Hispanics will find the same thing, in due time. Being owned by one party -- either of them -- means you have no party."

Mr. Conservative himself, Rush Limbaugh, says he might not be supporting a Republican this time around. I hate it. I like things to be fast paced and I like using my brain. However, I do not have these luxuries in my office and so am forced to do things like read political websites and stalk people on facebook and laugh at britney spears and post links that no one is reading anyways.

There are several people in my office that also do not like their job. They also do not like being bored and do not like monotony. This is where we are similar. However, what is different between me and these "several" is that even though I don't like my job, I still do it. I come to work, do what is asked of me, and go home. And at the end of the day I have a great sense of un-accomplishment and laziness. Which I despise. But until I find something better, this job will suffice to pay the bills - and very well, I might add (side note, everyone gets paid the same, highly substantial, amount in my office). So I come to work and do my job, just like my Dad taught me to do. It doesn't matter that I hate it, it doesn't matter that I am bored, it doesn't matter how I feel about it. I was hired to do something, and do it I will.

The "Several" have a completely different outlook. They come to work, complain about being asked to accomplish basic goals and tasks, and then make up some (what many consider to be) ridiculous excuses for why they have not completed these basic things required of them. Now is the fun part. Someone else in the office gets a promotion, or gets to take on another, maybe larger, task, because they have been a consistent employee who always meets or exceeds goals and strives to be worthy of their hiring - deserving of their fairly large paycheck. Now the "several" are in an uproar, because this is just not fair! Why did we not get asked to do more? Why are we not allowed to interview for the promotion? You are picking favorites!

Ahhhh thinks makes me think about how wonderful affirmative action is!

{insert sarcastic rolling of the eyes here}

Yes. The people who are promoted and praised decided to come to work every day and do what was asked of them without questioning or complaining. And were rewarded for it. The people who are not promoted and constantly have someone looking over their shoulder whined at every turn and excused their every laziness. And then want something for it! God help me. Have you ever had a real job?? The world does not work that way! My parents taught me that if I am doing something I better do it right. I can't tell you how many times when I was growing up my Dad told me to clean the car out - and made me go back 5 times until it was done right. This of course made me very upset at the time but along the way it instilled in me this very basic and important thing called work ethic. And I wasn't even getting paid to clean the car!

I can't for the life of me wrap my mind around people who think they should get handed things "just because". And this is how I compare liberalism to conservativism. I don't want it handed to me, I will work for it. If I'm not doing my job the right way I don't expect - or deserve - anything more. If you have met your goals and I haven't, then you should definitely get the bigger paycheck. Quit whining and do what you came to do. Get over yourself and your "I want free hand outs" nonsense.

You don't deserve shit, jack.

Oh, and feel free to come back and ask for more money when you understand what being a real employee is.

Hardcore

The Republican Loyalty Quiz

10 Questions to Test Your Allegiance to the GOP...and my results are:

You are a pure, unabashed, die-hard Republican loyalist You remain fiercely dedicated to fighting the twin evils of terrorism and liberalism, and you'd walk across a field of land mines if it meant casting a deciding vote for a Republican president. I found this on Reuters.

So 31% of the respondents are ok with Bush's overall performance, 20.5% believe the US is headed in the right direction, Economic policy got a 23% and foreign policy got a 21.5%. Pretty low numbers if you ask me. Now here's what I find interesting - 86.5% said they were proud of the U.S., 81.5% felt safe in America when it comes to threats from abroad, and 64% were secure in their job and confident their children will have better lives than they do.

Does this make any sense to you? In my assumption if you are embarassed of your leader, don't like what your country is doing, and think the economic and foreign policies are from satan...wouldn't it stand to reason that your pride in being an American, your general feeling of safety, and your hope for the future be awfully low on the scale as well? I mean, its just a thought...

Squirrely

I've been seeing references to this all day and finally found the story! He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn’t much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. This makes me laugh. No really, it does. Is Hillary serious?? If you go to her website (which I will not put a link to because I refuse to have that handy for you) and read her biography, pretty much the first 3 or 4 pages are all about her growing up and how she was poor and blah blah...Then talks about how she was a lawyer for a lil' bit...then a governors wife...then a presidents wife...oh but THEN she became a senator! And switched states to do it, big whoop. Ok so...which experience were you talking about here? The marriage experience, the "maybe I'll be a lawyer for a while" experience, or what? Check out Obama's page next. Pretty sure he's got more experience than she does, the end. Bro's before Ho's, dude!

Also, since I'm on the topic of Obama, I was listening to the faves, Preston and Steve on the radio this morning (if you dont live in Philly you dont know who Im talking about which is not entirely ok with me but its not your fault) and they had some comedian on. He starts going off about politics which I am also not really ok with but, you know, everyone has an opinion. He started talking about how people are saying Obama is a muslim, blah blah, and then goes "Who the hell cares if he's Muslim? I don't care! Who cares!".....mmmmmm what?! I care! Dont get me wrong, I'm not a hater, I know lots of people have different beliefs than I do. But seriously? You don't care if there was a muslim running for President??? Good God I was shocked. And these are the people who are voting. Great. At least he made lots of snide comments about Hillary. On how we could end up with a brokered convention and how the Republican party better quit looking for the perfect candidate or we're never going to keep our place in the White House. Also on how Ronald Reagan was not the perfect candidate and if he tried get elected now, he probably would be labeled a "flip flopper" and we'd all make fun of him for it. Hm...

There's just so many!
Let's talk about this. Apparently there is a baby boom! And its all because the "experts" say the use of contraceptives has diminished, the access to abortion has diminished, and well...Americans like having babies. Oh, and Latino women made 1/4 of them. Who knew. I would also like to point out that in my personal opinion if you don't want people to have more babies tell Hollywood hotties to quit poppin' them out. Its the latest fad, baby making, its the thing to do. If Angelina and Nicole and Britney and Gwen are having them, then surely I need one as well!

I can't help it, her name just pops up everywhere!
Huckabee said that he wanted to promote a federally regulated smoking ban. Now he says he thinks it should up to the local governments. First of all, I don't like Huckabee at all. Second of all, I don't like it when people change their minds about things so they can get those extra votes. Third of all, big government is not my idea of a good time and I'm not interested. And fourth of all, I'm sorry, but I think there are more important things to talk about than smoking bans. Hillary is opposed to a federal smoking ban. Which surprised me. But then it didn't because Bill tried to do this already and it didn't work out so well for him.

Rush does it again
This is kind of long, sorry - you can read someone's commentary on it here. This is Rush's response to a caller complaining about how healthcare is expensive and saying Rush doesn't understand:

RUSH: Yes, I damn well do because I do pay for it myself!

CALLER: Well, exactly.

RUSH: Let me tell you something.

CALLER: But when I talk about your wealth —

RUSH: No, no, no. Let me tell you something about this wealth business. I've been broke twice in my life. When I was 31 years old, I was making $17,000 a year. I have been fired I forgot how many times. Seven times! So I've been there. This constant refrain that I'm "out of touch," is just bogus. That's another thing that really bugs me: this movement within the Republican Party to claim that the middle class is in great suffering and pain. I understand if you own a house, and your value of your equity in your house is plummeting, that you're worried, and I understand that totally. What you need to hear is the truth of why it happened, so that you can make plans in the future. These are cycles, and everybody in every country and every society goes through them, and ours are not nearly as bad as people around the rest of the world are. I know health care is expensive. That's why I'm focused not on making it more expensive, but on making it cheaper, and how you do that? You do it with conservatism! I'm by no means out of touch on this. If the health care industry were priced like every other industry is on the patient's ability to pay, then we'd fix the problem, and that's the direction we have to head in.

But if we're going to keep this notion that everybody's entitled to have whatever they want medically paid for by their neighbors, then we are finished. We are finished as a country; we are finished as a society. You can talk about my wealth, but let me tell you something, sir. I don't depend on anybody else for anything, and it was one of my objectives when I grew up. I didn't want to be obligated. I didn't want to be dependent. I didn't want to owe anybody. I don't buy into insurance plans because it's a hassle! Now, I know a lot of people don't have that freedom. I used to not have that freedom, either. But I do now because I worked for it — and if I can do it, a lot more people can do it than think they can, and that's conservatism again. People are much better than they know. They have much more potential than they know. But when you've got a Democrat Party and a movement telling them they suck, telling them they can't get anywhere because the deck is stacked against them and the people stacking the deck are Republicans and so forth, then you are diminishing the country; you're diminishing the future, and you're destroying people's lives.

......

The health care problem in this country is getting worse, while people are voting on for people who are making it worse because they hear these people saying, "I'm going to fix it." Well, the people in charge of fixing it have no interest in it getting fixed, because if it gets fixed, you don't need them. You can rely on yourself. This health care debate is one of the most infuriating things I witness every day, because I get so sick and tired of people buying hook, line, and sinker a lie. "I'm going to get everybody covered. I'm going to make sure everybody gets health insurance in this country. We're going to make sure it's not just the rich." It doesn't happen, does it? When you have government telling private industry how to operate, this is exactly what you get, and it's going to happen in energy. It's already happening in a number of other industries, too...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theveronicanotes.blogspot.com/2008/01/where-i-dont-like-lizards.html' title='Where?! I wish they would make it into a movie where Hillary crawls into a hole and dies in the end. Mauricio Celis, "attorney" and big time democratic donor is going through a little scandal. Since Britney Spears is way more important than this (did you hear she showed up at court today? i KNOW, right?!), this story obviously isn't a really big deal. But I did hear it, so now you can. First of all, he's not a lawyer. "In Texas, the unauthorized practice of law is a felony. It is also illegal for lawyers to share fees with non-lawyers or for non-lawyers to own an interest in a law firm, with certain narrow exceptions. And according to the State Bar, Celis is not licensed to practice law in Texas." (My San Antonio) Second of all, he's getting linked to drug trafficking and money laundering. Third of all, now he is crying about how the Republicans are out to get him because he is supporting his party. But my favorite part is this - guess who he is supporting for president? Oh come on, you don't need a robot to figure that one out.

My new favorite song
(Raise your hands high!)
Young brothers and sisters,
there's a world's worth of work and a need for you.
Oh, changes come, through these doors, now closing.
There's no world for tomorrow if we wait for today.
-No World For Tomorrow, Coheed & Cambria

It's all very sad
Also, Jon Stewart would like to say this about Hillary and tears:
"That's it? That's the emotional breakdown that blows the election for her? I'm glad no one here ever sees me get a flu shot."
